After 9/ll, a document was discovered which set out the preparations for what became the largest and most significant terrorist attack ever undertaken. This chapter looks at that short four page document and there is an appendix to it where those parts cleared by the FBI for release appear in translation. The relevance of this material lies in the way that it exposes the mindset of the hijackers and gives valuable insight into the way in which every aspect of the preparations is given a specifically Islamist context. For example, the Hijackers are enjoined to wear their clothes tightly, so they could not be grabbed or snagged. Practical measures such as these are justified because the ‘righteous predecessors’ wore their clothes in this way prior to battle. The material here gives an invaluable insight into this way of thinking and is a useful resource for anyone seeking to understand this phenomenon.
